Pussy Riot is going to be on House Of Cards

Nadya Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, the two members of Russian punk-rock band Pussy Riot who were imprisoned for speaking out against President Vladimir Putin, will guest star in the next season of Netflix’s House Of Cards. Netflix hasn’t officially commented, but City Paper, which covers the series’ production home of Baltimore, got the story from two show staffers, who said Pussy Riot will appear in the third episode of the show’s upcoming third season.

There’s no word yet on whether the two will be playing themselves, though considering both are in the episode, that seems likely. Their presence also suggests that House Of Cards will be delving deeper into foreign policy, at least in some capacity.

In the spring, Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina met with House Of Cards writers in New York as part of a long visit to America spent talking with other activists and artists. At the time, the two told the Wall Street Journal that they were discussing with the show’s writers how to make a political movie, saying, “This is our main agenda right now.”
