PWR BTTM cancels tour as fans await formal statement
The fallout from allegations of sexual assault, among other offenses, leveled against Ben Hopkins, one-half of the queercore duo PWR BTTM, has been swift and definitive: The band was dropped by its management and then by its record label within days of the accusations first surfacing on social media. But there are still a few loose ends to be tied up, namely the band’s scheduled tour—many of whose opening acts have already dropped out—and the future of PWR BTTM itself.
We’re still waiting on a statement on the latter from Hopkins and bandmate Liv Bruce on the latter, but the tour appears to be off, based on posts a number of venues have made on social media. According to Pitchfork, dates in Missoula, New Orleans, Chicago, Providence, Montreal, Tallahassee, Orlando, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, and Durham have already been canceled, with St. Louis’ Off Broadway announcing on its Facebook page that “PWR BTTM is cancelling all upcoming shows until further notice. The band will be making a formal statement early next week.”
We’ll let you know when that happens. In the meantime, venues are offering refunds for canceled shows at the point of purchase.
