Raekwon and Ghostface Killah are making a documentary about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
With the 20th anniversary of Raekwon’s seminal album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx coming up this August, MTV is reporting that he and collaborator Ghostface Killah are releasing a documentary about the making of the album. Titled The Purple Tape Files (for Cuban Linx‘s purple cassette) the film features interviews with Raekwon, Ghostface, a bunch of other Wu-Tang Clan members, and some other rappers and musicians who were influenced by the album—including Xzibit, in case you want your documentaries to have things inside your things so you can thing while you thing. Raekwon and the Wu-Tang Clan showed off some footage at Sundance over the weekend, and there’s an official site that MTV says has “more info,” but it’s really just so you can sign up for the film’s mailing list. That’s right: Not only does Only Built 4 Cuban Linx have a movie, it also has a mailing list. 1995 would have no idea what’s going on.
