Read This: Here's a new, rare interview with Calvin And Hobbes creator Bill Watterson 

The latest issue of Mental Floss features an interview with pop culture’s great white whale: Calvin And Hobbes creator Bill Watterson. The entire interview is only in the magazine, but Mental Floss published a healthy excerpt of the e-mail exchange on its site, and it’s downright fascinating. Watterson is straightforward and upfront about why he quit drawing Calvin, and why he’s turned down money and offers to do things like a Calvin movie, saying, “As a comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes works exactly the way I intended it to. There’s no upside for me in adapting it.” Watterson also responded to all his nostalgia hungry fans, telling Mental Floss that it’s hard for readers to let go of the strip because “You can’t really blame people for preferring more of what they already know and like. The trade-off, of course, is that predictability is boring. Repetition is the death of magic.”
