“I told him, ‘Let me explain this, Michael, go and fuck yourself and stay fucked ’til the day you die,'” Barr told hosts Travis Dhanraj and Karman Wong. “Don’t put my name in your fucking mouth, shut the fuck up. You are an ignoramus and a bigot, and you have no idea what I said because it contradicts the Democrat party platform that you’ve had shoved down your throat and up your ass. So just fuck you. You have no geopolitical context whatsoever to discuss what I said.'”
Now, apart from what geopolitical context it takes to excuse the now 73-year-old Barr tweeting that former President Barack Obama and adviser Valerie Jarrett are apes, the tirade roused former TV son Fishman (now 44) to deliver something of a more measured response. Via Entertainment Weekly, on a video posted to his account on Twitter/X, the actor thanks Barr for at least pausing in her rant to let slip that he originally expressed compassion to her after her infamous remarks, noting that the intervening years have seen him “living something publicly what a lot of you have been navigating privately—that’s caring and loving someone who’s been a powerful part of your life, who has changed.”
Fishman, who has, like most of his former Roseanne and Conners costars, repudiated Barr’s right-wing turn along with her racist statements (and gotten similarly attacked for it), yet hopes that his former onscreen mom will find the instincts to apologize to him, for the whole “worm” thing if nothing else. Meanwhile, the actor hinted that Barr’s recent abusiveness toward him “gave you a glimpse into the darker side of my childhood.”
