Samantha Bee apologizes for Ivanka Trump comments on Full Frontal

On last night’s Full Frontal, host Samantha Bee talked about the Trump administration’s habit of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents when they cross the border, comparing that story to a fairly tone-deaf photo that Ivanka Trump posted over the weekend of her holding her young child. It was like the Trumps were trying to highlight the importance of family while actively trying to make life worse for other families, and Bee addressed Ivanka Trump in ruthless monologue that included this quote (via Variety):

Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless cunt. He listens to you. Put on something tight and low cut and tell him to fucking stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK?

Unsurprisingly, that bit has become fairly controversial today, with Trump supporters gleefully banding together to declare that Bee deserves to lose her show just like how Roseanne Barr did earlier this week when she posted a racist tweet about a former Obama adviser. The speed and ferocity that conservatives displayed today in calling out Bee is reminiscent of a significantly smaller movement yesterday, in which right-wing Twitter users tried to build up a backlash against Bill Maher, but the campaign against Bee has already found some success. This afternoon, Bee posted an apology on her personal Twitter account, saying that “using an expletive” to describe Ivanka Trump “was inappropriate and inexcusable.”

The Hollywood Reporter says that Autotrader has quickly moved suspend its ads on Full Frontal.
