The Marty Supreme actor will join Helena Bonham Carter and Chris Messina on the French Riviera.

Sandra Bernhard will check into The White Lotus

It wouldn’t be a season of The White Lotus without a wealthy, mature woman gallivanting around the highly-exclusive resort and making the lives of the staff miserable. As of last week, it looked like this season’s version of that trope could be played by Helena Bonham Carter. However, last night, Deadline reported that comedian and actor Sandra Bernhard would be checking into the resort on the French Riviera for the fourth season of The White Lotus. Perhaps she and Carter can play sisters, or sisters-in-law, or perhaps they will arrive to the resort as strangers but leave as best friends or even lovers. We can do nothing but speculate wildly at this point; HBO hasn’t shared any details about Bernhard’s character yet. 

The White Lotus is poised to be Bernhard’s biggest role in years, though she’s regularly popped up in film and television, generally in offbeat comedies, for close to five decades. Recently, she’s been featured, in relatively small roles, in Severance and Marty Supreme. 

Besides Bernhard and Carter, this upcoming season of The White Lotus is set to include Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, and AJ Michalka. Of course, that only looks to be about half of one of these resorts, so we can expect to see some more names in the coming weeks. There’s no premiere date yet confirmed for the new season, but given that the season is still being cast and given that season 3 filmed from February until August, it’s a good bet that we won’t see Bernhard, Carter, et al. on screen until 2027.
