Scarlett Johansson needs Marvel fans to let Black Widow go

Marvel fans are a passionate bunch. But are they passionate enough to overpower the laws of mortality? No, they aren’t. Despite this simple truth, former Avenger and current covert operative spying on dinosaur scientists (in Jurassic World Rebirth, of course) Scarlett Johansson feels the need to set the record straight that what’s dead is dead and is not coming back.

“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. Okay?” Johansson says in a new cover interview with InTouch. Apparently, this is something that Marvel fans have had a hard time accepting, and have said as much to the actor’s face. “They just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”

That does sound annoying, but in defense of the fans, there has been reason to doubt that someone is really dead. First of all, Johansson has already reappeared in the franchise after her character’s death in the prequel Black Widow. And while he isn’t coming back as Tony Stark, the also-dead Robert Downey Jr. is set to return for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as Victor Von Doom. And he did it after winning an Oscar! It stands to reason, then, that there would be a chance that Johansson could reappear somewhere in the franchise. Regardless, this doesn’t sound like something Johansson is particularly interested in pursuing, having instead taken her talents to the latest iteration of Jurassic Park. Sorry, fans—she loves a new franchise now.
