Scarlett Johansson will play Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho

The recent trend toward remaking Alfred Hitchcock’s movies will reach an appropriately twisty apotheosis with Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho, a biopic that will actually remake Hitchcock making a Hitchcock film, in a film designed to drive us all shrieking mad with its many layers of meta. Good eeeevening and all that. The project has been in the works for a while now, with Anthony Hopkins first attached to play Hitchcock in 2007, and Anvil! director Sacha Gervasi signing on last year to helm yet another story of an artist who’s forced to compete in an increasingly crowded field of crass knock-offs. And now Variety reports that it’s definitely moving ahead, with Helen Mirren playing Hitchcock’s wife Alma, and Scarlett Johansson attached to play Janet Leigh, presumably after the casting agents' insistence that they needed “just one more screen test in the shower.” Variety is also already comparing the role to Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn, so you know, no pressure.
