Selma Blair may be facing up to seven years in jail after being removed from a Delta flight in New York City yesterday. Last night, she appeared in Queens Criminal Court and pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault, according to the Associated Press. Blair allegedly injured two flight attendants on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, and is also accused of kicking an officer who took her to the hospital after the flight, and accused of kicking a nurse at the hospital. Her representatives say that Blair suffered a severe medical emergency. She left court on a $20,000 bond and is due back in January; if convicted on state charges, CNN reports that she could face two to seven years in jail.
Various reports have emerged about what happened on the flight in question. Per CNN, Port Authority and the FBI were dispatched to JFK Airport on Sunday night after receiving a report of a physically abusive passenger aboard the arriving plane. One flight attendant was reportedly bitten and another was cut, and Blair reportedly kicked an officer while being strapped to a stretcher. According to Page Six, Blair’s reps have chalked the incident up to coming from a long day on set, hitting her head, and missing medication to treat her multiple sclerosis.
Blair has been pretty open about her various health issues over the years, sharing her diagnosis with MS publicly in 2018. Separately, she spoke earlier this month at an ADL event about losing much of her career after an offensive post about Muslims in 2024, though the controversy seems to have abated. As CNN points out, she had been posting on Instagram lately about how busy she was and how much traveling she had been doing over the past couple of weeks. The site also points out that she was removed from a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles in 2016 for unruly behavior, and was hospitalized after.
