And yet, maybe none other than formerly Disney-parodying Sausage Party creative mind Seth Rogen is just the person to turn semi-beloved mascot Figment into Disney’s next lucrative screen icon. Rogen first announced his intention to produce an untitled Figment feature in 2022, with the film lingering in speculative limbo since then. But, according to Entertainment Weekly, Rogen has potentially rekindled his passion for the project—about the little purple dragon from Epcot’s Journey Into Imagination ride—into a priority. Even if the Good Fortune star isn’t sharing too much of what’s going on inside his head.
Rogen’s initial statement, “I can’t tell you anything!,” from his perch being interviewed about the Rogen-starring Babies at the in-progress Toronto International Film Festival might not sound all that promising. But the 44-year-old actor, screenwriter and director assures fans that the Figment idea hasn’t been completely snuffed out. Seeming to confirm that he was still intent on producing the film, Rogen hinted that, just maybe, he’s just waiting for a little imagination to inspire him.
With his signature bashful bullhorn laugh, Rogen brushed off further inquiries as to the status, nature, or indeed ongoing existence of the Figment project, although his evasiveness in saying, “Let me get back to you on that one” rings more like adherence to Disney’s infamously rigid NDA policies than dismissal. If Rogen is indeed preparing to dive back into the high-profile animated film, poor Figment will have to wait in line as the industrious Rogen is currently starring in not only Babies (written by wife Lauren Miller Rogen) but also the swinging relationship dramedy The Invite, as well as prepping new seasons of The Studio and Platonic among other projects.
