Though details of the next season are obviously being kept under wraps, Deadline has a rumor about her role being “tied to Agent Xavier Collins’ (Brown) mission teed off at the end of the Season 1 finale.” Major spoiler alert here if you haven’t seen the show: three years after the earth experienced utter cataclysm, Xavier learned that there were human survivors outside the bunker created by President Cal Bradford (James Marsden) and a group of billionaires led by Samantha “Sinatra” Redmond. In the finale’s cliffhanger, he leaves his kids underground to go seek out his wife, whom he believes to be alive somewhere. Deadline reports Woodley will play a “prominent survivor.”
This feels like a suitable role for Shailene Woodley, who once claimed to forage her food, make her own homeopathic medicines, and brush her teeth with clay. Of course she’s also a television veteran, having acted on series since childhood (on The O.C. and later The Secret Life Of The American Teenager). After leading some prominent films, she faced off with Meryl Streep on Big Little Lies and most recently led the Starz limited series Three Women.
Paradise had a solid first season, scoring 6.3 million viewers worldwide for the finale and continuously holding a top spot on the Hulu Top 15 Today as it aired (via The Wrap). The viewership will likely enjoy a bump with the entire season set to broadcast on ABC starting April 7 at 10 AM E.T.
