Shout! Factory’s mission to bring MST3K to DVD has come to an end

A new era began earlier this year with the release of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return on Netflix, and now it looks like another era is coming to an end. Shout! Factory has been helping to bridge the gap between “keep circulating the tapes” and “now streaming on Netflix” for several years now, steadily releasing episodes of MST3K seasons one through 10 a volume at a time. But now it seems that this noble quest is coming to an end.

The company made the announcement in a Facebook post last night, where it said that the upcoming MST3K Volume XXXIX, which includes The Amazing Transparent Man, Girls Town, and Diabolik, will likely be ”the last collection of never-before-released episodes, and that [the] remaining episodes may never get a legitimate release.” As a compromise, the MST3K Volume XXXIX set will include a fourth disc with the host segments from the remaining episodes, all of whose movies can’t be licensed for one reason or another.

Here are those episodes, which surely someone out there has on bootleg VHS. If so, you know what to do:
