Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is on track to win the weekend, but it’s already made history. Per Deadline, Sinners is the first horror movie ever to land an A CinemaScore rating in the organization’s 47-year history. We usually take CinemaScore exit polls with a grain of salt. Most movies land somewhere between B- and B+, so much so that if a film scores a B-, it’s treated like a problem. People only ever hear about CinemaScore when something gets an F, like mother!. Though that list is made of forgotten horror films, mostly. As Deadline notes, plenty of horror movies have received an A- score, including Get Out, Five Nights At Freddy’s, and, somehow, Child’s Play 2, a fun movie that audiences went wild for. Alas, an elusive A+ still eludes the genre. According to Wikipedia, 128 movies have received an A+, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Empire Strikes Back, and the 2025 animated Jesus X Charles Dickens team-up, The King Of Kings. Zero recipients have been horror movies, unless you count Mr. Holland’s Opus.
