Smokey Robinson sued by ex-employees for sexual assault

Several of Smokey Robinson‘s former employees have accused the soul singer of numerous sexual crimes, gender violence, and fostering a hostile work environment in a legal complaint filed in Los Angeles today, The Wrap reported. Four Jane Does, all of whom worked as housekeepers for the singer, claim Robinson raped them mulitple times while under his employ between 2007 and 2024. The plaintiffs seek no less than $50 million in damages and a jury trial.

Each of the Jane Does says Robinson sexually assaulted them multiple times. The most recent accusation comes from Jane Doe 1, who worked for Robinson between March 2023 and February 2024, and said in the complaint that Robinson raped her at least seven times. Jane Doe 2 accuses Robinson of raping her without a condom, both orally and vaginally, and would threaten her if she refused him. Jane Doe 3 worked for Robinson between February 2012 and 2024, resigned after Robinson raped her “at least 20 times” and offered to pay her $500 to “allow him to orally copulate her.” She worked in fear of Robinson out of concern for “her livelihood, familial reprisal, public embarrassment, shame and humiliation to her and her family, the possible adverse effect on her immigration status, as well as being threatened and intimidated by Defendant Smokey Robinson’s well-recognized celebrity status and his influential friends and associates.” The earliest incident occurred in 2007, when he allegedly forced Jane Doe 4 into his bedroom and assaulted her.

The plaintiffs also blame Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, also named in the complaint, for perpetrating a hostile work environment and failing to protect the women from her husband. Robinson, the suit states, was aware of her husband’s history of sexual misconduct. The Jane Does also accuse Robinson of “regularly screaming” at them and using “ethnically pejorative words and language.”

A representative for Robinson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
