Saturday Night Live reveals first round of guests for 50th anniversary special

The last time we heard from Saturday Night Live, James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump was harassing Lin Manuel Miranda about the first week of his presidency. Needless to say, a lot has happened since then that SNL normally would have covered. Instead, they’ve been busy planning a celebration for their milestone 50th anniversary. We’re still another 10 days away from that, but the show teased some festivities today with the first lineup of celebrity guests for their big, three-hour special on the 16th.

Lots of the first round are people you could fairly call SNL mainstays; Five-Timers Club members John Mulaney, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Paul Simon, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johansson all will appear on the special. More recent (and, it must be said, more controversial) fixture Dave Chappelle will also join the show, as will Kim Kardashian, Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson, Pedro Pascal, Peyton Manning, Robert De Niro, and Woody Harrelson. Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus, Bad Bunny, and Sabrina Carpenter will also join, though it’s unclear as of now whether they’ll be singing.

The 50th anniversary special will come two days after SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, which recently unveiled a massive lineup of its own. (Kind of strange that neither event is on a Saturday, no?) Per Variety, more guests are expected to be announced for the Sunday special in the coming days.
