As it turns out, Sony was definitely serious when it said it saw The Amazing Spider-Man as a "reboot" of the franchise, and today it's hired two of the franchisiest writers around to franchise it up: Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have been tapped to do a second draft on the sequel, taking over an already-completed script from the first film's writer, Zodiac scribe James Vanderbilt. In grand Vanderbilt tradition, James had plenty of help on the first film as well, including input from director Marc Webb, fine-tuning from Harry Potter writer Steve Kloves and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man man Alvin Sargent, and—as recently revealed to Vulture—even an alley-oop from Paul Feig, who added his comedic touch to one of the high school scenes. But Sony seems to be taking fewer chances with the chain of command by handing the project fully over to Kurtzman and Orci, the Fringe co-creators who are also responsible for movies that make money such as Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, and Star Trek, as well as movies that surprisingly don't make money considering whom they were written by such as Cowboys And Aliens. Kurtzman and Orci did not reveal their personal vision for where they plan to take Spider-Man, but presumably it also involves making money.
