Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot, which seems determined to defy all expectations, will find the recently cast Rhys Ifans playing The Lizard, the reptilian alter ego of Dr. Curt Connors. Dylan Baker played the role of Connors in both of Sam Raimi’s sequels, where he just sort of hung out in the background helping Peter Parker with his physics homework, with the implication that maybe one day he’d finally get around to being evil. Unfortunately for Baker, he now joins the erstwhile Gwen Stacy, Bryce Dallas Howard, in the alternate Spidey universe. Contrary to rumors, Venom will not reappear in the next Spider-Man—which is probably good news for Andrew Garfield, considering how well that worked out for Tobey Maguire last time.
