Writer-director Bella Thorne promises her Spring Breakers sequel is "litty McTitties"

Originally announced under the direction of Matthew Bright, whose last screen credit remains 2002’s Gary Oldman-led Dorf-terpiece, Tiptoes, Thorne now says she’ll be handling writing and directing duties. Thorne tells Cooper that producers asked her to step in after seeing an early cut of her directorial debut, Color Your Hurt, which has yet to be released. Thorne, of course, is no novice behind the camera. She’s directed several music videos and was nominated for two Adult Video New Awards for her 2020 short, Her & Him. The multi-hyphenate also shares the Disney-girl pedigree with Spring Breakers alumni Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. 

A Spring Breakers sequel has been in the works for more than a decade, with Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, directed by Jonas Åkerlund and written by Irvine Welsh, being announced in 2014. At the time, star James Franco blasted the would-be follow-up, saying it was an attempt to capitalize on “someone else’s creativity.” Thankfully, Franco got busy remaking The Room, and that version of the sequel never came to pass. Later, Korine himself suggested he might be interested in taking charge of the film—though The Beach Bum already serves as a Floridian spiritual sequel, which explains why that never happened—and also Korine got really into making retina-burning AI-laced art films. With all that in mind, we put our utmost faith in Ms. Thorne, who assures party people everywhere that Spring Breakers 2 will be lit.
