Star-Lord
Who he is: Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill
His power: No powers to speak of, unless you count the ability to crack really goofy jokes as some kind of power. Not a bad thief, though, and a good shot with a blaster.
His story: So far, Peter Quill’s sole appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Guardians Of The Galaxy, where we learn he was abducted from Earth at age 8, after the death of his mother. He was taken in by a gang of criminals called the Ravagers, led by Yondu Udonta, until he struck out on his own, claiming a heist job involving the theft of an orb. He soon learns the orb contains a powerful infinity stone and is sought by Kree fanatic Ronan The Accuser. In prison, Quill joins Gamora, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and Drax The Destroyer in a plan to recover the stone and defeat Ronan, which they do by joining forces with both the Nova military and the Ravagers.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 finds Star-Lord and the other Guardians capturing Nebula, only to be attacked by a race called The Sovereign. They’re rescued by a weird old guy who turns out to be Peter’s father. His name is Ego, and he turns them to hide out on a planet that is the living embodiment of his powers—did we mention he’s got somewhat God-like abilities? Anyway, he bonds with Peter, only to eventually reveal his plan—to wipe out all other life in the galaxy, becoming the sole sentient force, along with his son. Luckily, the Guardians team up to stop him—and Yondu, Peter’s other father figure, sacrifices himself to kill Ego and allow the Guardians to escape.
Played by: Chris Pratt
Currently, Star-Lord is: Gallivanting about with the Guardians.
Where will we see him next? Avengers: Infinity War, coming May 4, 2018.
