Steve Carell and David Steinberg prepping documentary on the history of modern comedy
Steve Carell continues to announce plans for more comedies that he will not appear in, this time a documentary he's developing with fellow Second City vet David Steinberg, a popular stand-up in the ’60s and ’70s who went on to be a top director for shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm and host the TV Land show Sit Down Comedy. The as-yet-untitled film will find Steinberg interviewing people like Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Lily Tomlin, Don Rickles, Carol Burnett, Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Judd Apatow, Robin Williams, Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock, Jane Lynch, and Tina Fey about “the evolution of comedy over the past 60 years,” from its humble beginnings as a method of exploring the often-amusing differences between men and women to its current, more sophisticated incarnation as a place where the most pressing social issues of the day are cathartically explored, plus dick jokes.
