Folks, the golf wave is upon us. Last year, for some reason, several different golf projects starring comedic actors were greenlit at different studios, and now we’ve finally got a sneak peek at the one that’s got Owen Wilson in it. On Thursday, Apple TV+ shared a Stick first look in addition to the premiere date on June 4. In addition to starring, Wilson serves as an executive producer alongside series creator Jason Keller.

Previously titled Rambler & The Birdie Machine, Stick follows Wilson as “Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago,” per a synopsis from Apple. After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager).” The streamer describes the series as “a heartfelt, feel-good comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.”

Never been shown before… yet. As previously mentioned, a few other guys are going to take a swing at the same subject. Will Ferrell is set to play a “fictional golf legend” in Netflix’s upcoming Golf, which he co-created with Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz. (Netflix is billing this as Ferrell’s “first TV comedy,” presumably barring his seven seasons of Saturday Night Live.) And Kevin James is playing a real golf legend in a limited series about John Daly, which will be executive produced by James’ older brother, comedian Gary Valentine. There’s also a new Happy Gilmore movie coming, so clearly Hollywood is longing to spend more time on the green.

But it appears Stick is going to be the first one out of the gate (or whatever the appropriate golf metaphor would be—closest to the hole?). The cast includes Marc Maron, Judy Greer, and Timothy Olyphant, among others. The show will debut with three episodes on June 4, with a new episode following every Wednesday through July 23.
