Stranger Things ain’t afraid of no ghosts in our first look at season 2
Yeah, we know, we also got a little overwhelmed by all the Stranger Things memes that came out in the wake of the show’s whirlwind success last summer. But that was a few months ago now—although it seems like several lifetimes—and David Harbour’s impassioned speech at the SAG Awards last weekend (and Winona Ryder’s master class in emotional range standing next to him) have renewed our good will towards the nostalgia-driven Netflix fantasy-adventure series.
And speaking of nostalgia, today EW released a first look at the series’ new season, due out later this year. And it appears that the show is doubling down on “hey, remember the ‘80s?” for season two:
Stranger Things season two takes place one year after the events of season one, placing it in 1984, generally agreed to be an exceptionally strong year for Hollywood blockbuster movies. (Ghostbusters hit theaters on June 8 of that year.) We’ll see how many references to Gremlins, The Terminator, Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, The Karate Kid, Beverly Hills Cop, Footloose, Red Dawn, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and/or The Neverending Story creators Matt and Ross Duffer have managed to squeeze in when the Stranger Things season two trailer debuts this Sunday during the Super Bowl.
