That Hellboy reboot will apparently be “darker” and “more gruesome”

Earlier this week, we reported that Millennium Films was moving forward with a reboot of the Hellboy series, replacing director Guillermo Del Toro with The Descent‘s Neil Marshall and replacing star Ron Perlman with Stranger Things’ David Harbour. Original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is also on board with the reboot, but other than that, we didn’t know much else.

Now, thanks to Silver Screen Beat (via Collider), we have some additional details from Andrew Cosby, one of the screenwriters who is working with Mignola on the reboot. Cosby says they have a finished script, but it sounds like they’re going to continue to work on it as the project moves forward. He didn’t offer any hints at the plot, but he did say that this movie—tentatively called Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen—will be “darker” and “more gruesome” than Del Toro’s movies. Apparently, Marshall wanted it to “walk a razor’s edge between horror and comic book movie,” which should be a good fit for Hellboy and might differentiate it a bit from Del Toro’s more fantastical films.

Also, fans seem divided on how to feel about this new Hellboy movie, but Jeffrey Tambor (who appeared in the first two films) definitely isn’t very happy about it:
