Because we need more terror in our day-to-day lives, BBC is going to bring H.G. Wells’ The War Of The Worlds to life once again. According to Variety, the broadcaster announced that project along with a host of other adaptations yesterday, because in this world of constant change we can always count on the BBC to bring us stately dramas based on great literary works. The War Of The Worlds story will be told in three parts, which will be written by Peter Harness of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell as well as a couple Doctor Who installments, naturally.
Also on the docket: A new incarnation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, this one adapted by Call The Midwife’s Heidi Thomas, as well as takes on Rumer Godden’s Black Narcissus and Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy. The Telegraph reports that A Suitable Boy, set in India, will be the BBC’s “first period drama featuring an entirely non-white cast.” As for entirely original material, the BBC is embarking on Giri/Haji, a series called a “sort of Lost in Translation in reverse” from Humans creator Joe Barton about a Toyko detective that goes to London. It will be available on Netflix for those of us not living in the U.K.
