The Coens bring that Hollywood razzle-dazzle to the first Hail, Caesar! trailer

We already knew that Joel and Ethan Coen would be operating in their madcap mode for their new movie Hail, Caesar!, thanks to the title’s ebullient punctuation as well as co-star Alex Karpovsky’s assurances that the film would be “zany.” Now the first full trailer for the film has been released, and it is indeed a farcical treat. Evoking classic Hollywood comedies like Preston Sturges’ Sullivan’s Travels—the film that inspired the title of the Coens’ O Brother, Where Art Thou?Hail, Caesar! stars Josh Brolin as a fixer at fictional Hollywood studio who is tasked with retrieving megastar Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) after he’s kidnapped by a mysterious group that calls itself “the Future.” Clooney’s described as “one of the biggest stars in the world” in the trailer, and he’s in good company with appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Frances McDormand (of course), and Beautiful Creatures’ Alden Ehrenreich.

Hail, Caesar! will sprinkle theaters with Hollywood stardust on February 5.
