The Designing Women "sequel" is headed to ABC
Just one day after taking a flamethrower to any bridges she might still have had with her old network home at CBS—penning a funny, thoughtful, but most especially pissed-off “Fuck you” to network boss Les Moonves for sabotaging her career as one of TV’s most successful and celebrated writers—Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth Thomason has confirmed that she’s taking the revival of her critically beloved series to ABC.
The Disney-owned network has just issued a script commitment to the Designing Women “sequel,” which will focus on a new cast of young Southern women with a sideline in interior decorating, and a primary focus on getting into witty, frequently politically-charged arguments with each other. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the series—showrun by Bloodworth Thomason—will initially focus on the new characters, but might see some classic Sugarbaker women back to check in at a later date.
“I’m very excited to be working with ABC,” Bloodworth Thomason said in a statement. “And Sony has always been a great partner for Designing Women. Normally, I’m not a fan of reboots but Designing Women does seem to have the right fengshui for all that is going on right now. We could definitely have some fun.”
