The Wylers try to stick together—for better or worse—in The Diplomat season 4 trailer

Whenever a Keri Russell character says “the fights are going to be spicy”—as Kate Wyler does in The Diplomat‘s newly released trailer—you best believe her. The actor, who already starred in a political TV show about a difficult marriage in The Americans, gives the concept a fresh spin in Netflix’s drama. In the Debora Cahn-created series, she stars as the United States ambassador to the UK, and Kate’s job derails the relationship with her husband because of the many secrets between them.

However, over three seasons, Kate and Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) have seen enough ups and downs to make us root for them. And if the trailer is any indication, then Kate is all in, too. Unless, of course, she has an agenda. As a reminder, season three ended on a major cliffhanger: Kate discovered that Hal, who was now the Vice President, conspired with POTUS Grace Hagen Penn (Allison Janney) to steal an underwater Nuclear bomb. If Russia finds out, they could declare war against Britain. In season four, Kate makes an uneasy alliance with Grace’s husband, Todd (Bradley Whitford), to stop their spouses from hurtling toward a global catastrophe.

For their performances in season three, Russell, Sewel, Janney, and Whitford each picked up an Emmy nomination this year. The Diplomat also got a nod in the Outstanding Drama Series category and the Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series category.

The ensemble includes Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, David Gyasi, Ato Essandoh, and Nana Mensah. The Diplomat season four premieres on October 15.
