Building on the brief, quickly edited teaser released Friday, last night AMC premiered the first full-length trailer for its Preacher series, and it’s as violent as fans of the comic might hope, although less surreal. Instead of focusing on the comic’s—and, presumably, the series’—more esoteric, Blood-Of-The-Grail-type aspects, this one plays up the Western angle as the Preacher himself, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), delivers an ominous (and frankly rather cliched) monologue on the nature of violence under the sweltering Texas sun. More interesting are early looks at Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) in action—violent action, naturally—culminating in a brief scene of the holy man and the vampire sharing a jail cell. Preacher debuts next year on AMC.
