It's all sisterhood and pistols in this first look at The Good Daughter

Peacock’s first-look glimpse at Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy’s upcoming thriller series The Good Daughter doesn’t give us a ton to go on, in terms of sussing out what the show’s plot will actually be about. (They don’t even tell us which of its two main daughters is the good one!) But it does give a sense of the project’s fairly gnarly tone, which has presumably been imported pretty cleanly from Karin Slaughter‘s novel, given that Slaughter herself is serving as showrunner for the series. Which is to say: It’s a lot of conversations about sisterhood mixed with a lot of glimpses of guys in ski masks holding weapons, using a flashback structure to show violence from the past threatening to bleed forward into the present.

Co-starring Brendan Gleeson, The Good Daughter is an adaptation of the Will Trent creator’s 2017 book, and centers on two sisters “trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence.” In a statement accompanying the promo, Slaughter praised both Byrne and Fahy, writing that, “The Good Daughter is a story of love, family, and the unbreakable bond between two resilient, funny, difficult sisters. It’s thrilling to watch Charlie and Sam brought to life by two extraordinarily talented women. Rose and Meghann perfectly captured the sister relationship—all the history, heartache and joy—wrapped inside this puzzle of a mystery.” (Slaughter’s statement did not go on to clarify whether the puzzle inside the mystery was also wrapped inside a conundrum, surrounded by an enigma.)
