The inevitable Budweiser boycott has begun

As we predicted earlier this week, a backlash from immigrant-hating Americans has begun to swell up against Budweiser’s new Super Bowl ad. The minute-long mini-movie tells the story of German immigrant Adolphus Busch moving to St. Louis and deciding to make beer with a man named Eberhard Anheuser, and along the way he bumps into a number of hateful jerks who tell him he doesn’t belong in the United States.

It’s a very timely spot, given the way Donald Trump is trying to literally and figuratively wall off this country’s borders, and Business Insider has put together a mini-movie of its own about Twitter users who are calling for a boycott of Budweiser:

As noted in that video, the Budweiser people say the ad wasn’t meant to be a political statement, but rather a “universal story that is very relevant today.” But simply acknowledging the positive benefits of immigration is a political statement in Trump’s America, and Budweiser shouldn’t waste time pretending otherwise. If it really wants to honor Busch’s legacy and the company’s history, it should tell the racist boycotters to enjoy their Coors Lights and let the real Americans drink the beer named America.
