Hope you’ve all enjoyed a peaceful two years not being a little terrified (or… turned on?) by the prospect of eating mushrooms. The Last Of Uswill officially return to HBO and Max April 13. It’s bringing with it a whole new set of nightmares for Joel and Ellie, not to mention the rest of us following along at home.
Season two’s logline reads as follows: “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
At least in the season two teaser, whatever this conflict is has gotten so bad that it inspires Joel to go to a therapy session run by none other than guest star Catherine O’Hara. An extended(ish) teaser also introduces us to major new character Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and a lot more spore-filled zombie action. Season two is based on the original video game follow-up The Last Of Us Part II, which was released in 2020. (Talk about pandemic-related art imitating life a bit too closely!) Don’t worry, non-gamers—the second installment has just as much heartbreak in store for everyone’s favorite pseudo-father and daughter pair. And for everyone who did play the game and has been holding onto all those spoilers—congratulations. You’re in the home stretch! Only 53 days left to go.
