After a long, grueling recruitment process—presumably involving lots of physical attacks, status conditions, and attempts to stuff him into a little plastic ball—Goosebumps director Rob Letterman has signed on for Detective Pikachu, the first live-action Pokémon film. Deadline reports that Letterman joins a creative roster already packed with talent, including a Gravity Falls Creator-type, Alex Hirsch, and Guardians Of The Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman, who comes equipped with the powerful “Pen Billion Dollar Screenplay” technique.

The film is being masterminded by Legendary Entertainment, which acquired the rights to the franchise from The Pokémon Company earlier this year. The film will center on the titular Detective Pikachu, a version of the popular lightning-hurling series mascot, who travels around solving crimes while wearing an adorable deerstalker cap.
