Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen walk us through the modern take on a classic comedy concept.

The Miniature Wife shows off some giant props in exclusive BTS featurette

If you want to make someone look tiny on screen, you’ve got to surround them with some pretty giant objects. This simple but fun truth is on full display in a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Peacock’s The Miniature Wife, which The A.V. Club can exclusively debut. The clip showcases a whole bunch of oversized props, like toothpaste, lipstick, and a Post-It note. There’s even a life-sized—if you’re shrunken Elizabeth Banks-sized—astronaut action figure in the dollhouse in which Lindy Littlejohn now lives.

“The script put me in mind with a lot of wonderful late 80s/early 90s comedies,” says co-stat Matthew Macfadyen, for obvious reasons. Outside the throwback craftsmanship of the props, it’s hard not to think of another very famous plot about accidentally shrinking a family member. But The Miniature Wife also promises to combine its “very technical, but very fun and physical”  in the words of Banks, with some marital drama sprinkled in the mix. “Les and Lindy are sort of the heart of the show,” says Banks. “I want the audience to be rooting for us to bring that life back together.”

Created by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner, The Miniature Wife also features O-T Fagbenle, Zoe Lister-Jones, Sian Clifford, and Sofia Rosinsky. All ten episodes of the series stream on Peacock on April 9.
