Specifically, the video combines scenes from The Simpson’s third season with The Wire’s season-three intro, the Neville Brothers’ take on “Way Down In The Hole.” While it’s not a shot-for-shot remake, Nozkowski expertly captures the minutiae-focused vibe that made The Wire’s openings so compelling. Here he features shots of the Kwik-E-Mart (where Springfieldians can probably buy burner phones), mayoral campaigns, late-night alcohol binges, grainy security camera footage, and even Krusty The Clown walkie-talkies—which are as close to an actual wire as The Simpsons is going to get.
The intro even ends with a vague but meaningful quote from Bart—“Underwear should be warn on the inside”—that would surely only hint at the thematic complexity to come in the episode. Now we’re just waiting for the Simpsons-style Wire intro that ends with Omar, Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale, and Jimmy McNulty squeezed onto a tiny couch.
