Book your ferry tickets and iron your Nantucket reds because The Perfect Couple may be going back to the island. Sources for The Hollywood Reporter suggest that Netflix is working on a second season of the Nicole Kidman-led murder mystery, sans Nicole Kidman. Actually, the new season presumably wouldn’t feature any of the Winburys or their drama-filled cadre of wedding guests, which also included characters played by Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, Donna Lynne Champlin, Jack Reynor, Dakota Fanning, and more.
Per the outlet, Netflix’s plan is to turn the popular show into an anthology series, with each season focused on a different very rich family from one of Elin Hilderbrand’s Nantucket-set novels. (Netflix did not immediately respond to The A.V. Club‘s request for comment on this story.) The potential second season would be based on Hilderbrand’s 2024 novel Swan Song, which, per THR, “follows what happens when the mysterious Richardson family buys a $22 million house on Nantucket. The Richardsons throw huge parties, flirt with locals, own two yachts and raise the hopes of everyone they meet.” It all sounds very Massachusetts Gatsby, until “their house burns down and the family’s most essential employee goes missing.”
We thought The Perfect Couple fell slightly short of that moniker at The A.V. Club. Saloni Gajjar deemed it “the downside of peak TV,” writing that it was “littered with talented stars and set in a stunning location, but the show is riddled with clichés without a bit of depth.” Maybe the Richardsons will throw a beach party we actually want to spend some time at.
