That means that Belly (Lola Tung) will finally be forced to choose between the two brothers—Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno)—she’s flip-flopped between since season one. Or maybe she’ll choose someone else entirely (or no one at all!), which would almost certainly be better for both herself and that poor family.
Of course, Belly’s fate has already been inscribed in book form. The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s decision to end after its third season isn’t all that surprising, as it was based on Jenny Han’s coming-of-age trilogy of the same name. Seasons one and two mapped neatly onto the first two novels in the series, with season three presumably taking its cues from the 2011 conclusion, We’ll Always Have Summer. Han is also deeply involved in the show; she serves as both co-showrunner (with Sarah Kucserka) and executive producer.
While they may be leaving Cousins Beach for the last time, the series’ stars have found some success in the off-season. Tung recently appeared as Eurydice in the Broadway production of Hadestown (opposite Jordan Fisher, who also starred in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, another Han adaptation), while Briney starred as Aaron Samuels in the 2024 version of Mean Girls. But for now, they’re about to have a blank space on their résumé where future seasons of the summer romance might have been.
