Rory Kennedy takes on The Trial Of Alec Baldwin in trailer for new documentary

Few trials in recent memory have been covered as extensively as the Rust shooting, which involved Alec Baldwin firing a prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The case was covered extensively in the media from the moment the shooting happened up through Baldwin’s charges were eventually dismissed and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed sentenced to 18 months in prison. Baldwin eventually went on to film a fairly grim reality show after the incident, but now the shooting is getting the prestige documentary treatment via director Rory Kennedy, who seems to have been with Baldwin through most of the ordeal, at least based on the new trailer we’ve seen this morning. 

The trailer for The Trial Of Alec Baldwin makes the case that the actor was not only tried in the courtroom, but in the court of public opinion. Baldwin has been famous for a long time—and, it’s fair to say, reviled by some based on his politics—which obviously colored the impression many had of the trial. Of course, we know now how everything ended, but The Trial Of Alec Baldwin does seem to be the closest look we’re likely to get of this case. 

The Trial Of Alec Baldwin will open at Village East by Angelika in New York on October 1, and at Laemmle Santa Monica on October 15, before opening in theaters nationwide on October 16.
