This tournament in search of the world's worst fan base is really heating up
“Fandom” is starting to sound like a four-letter word these days. Over the last few years, devotees of the world’s most popular properties have taken it upon themselves to harass women, drive down Rotten Tomatoes scores, harass women, spew racist shit, and harass more women. And that’s when they’re not cooking up conspiracy theories or terrorizing your local McDonald’s. But fandom doesn’t begin and end with Star Wars and Rick And Morty; there’s also the freaks who comment on Joe Rogen YouTube clips or only get their news from Pod Save America.
That’s why Onion and Clickhole writer Michelle Spies has taken it upon herself to hold an online tournament in pursuit of the world’s worst dedicated fanbase. As of this writing, the competition has entered into its third round, and though there’s plenty of familiar names on there—PewdiePie, Fortnite, and the Kardashians—there’s some dark horses that could very well sprint ahead, with Woody Allen, Supernatural, and the screeching creep that is Chris Hardwick having bested some tough competitors.
See the current bracket below, and follow Spies to ensure your voice gets heard in this very, very important contest.
