This week’s new games includes the returns of two ’00s-era faves, a Game Boy Color-inspired adventure with an unbeatable aesthetic, the start of the college football season, and an invasion from an intergalactic mushroom scourge. Here’s what Endless Mode will be playing this week; how about you?

Everdeep Aurora

Release Date: July 10

This cat don’t fight: Everdeep Aurora, a retro-styled gem from the Madrid-based Nautilus Games, is a combat-averse, exploration-focused platformer starring a cloak-wearing black cat trying to find her people safe haven from an apocalyptic meteor storm. In other words, it’s a stunner, and one of our most anticipated games of the summer. It’s been on our radar for a while, and we can’t wait to finally dive in later this week.

Mycopunk

Release Date: July 10
Platform: PC (Early Access)

Look, I can’t stand mushrooms (other than that one magical, mystical evening in Athens many summers ago…) That means Mycopunk is a game laser targeted right at me. This gorgeous shooter (seriously, it looks like Moebius drew it) has you team up with some robot buds to take down an invading race of fungi, and if it gives me even the slightest measure of revenge on every mushroom that ever crept onto my plate I’ll be pretty satisfied. It hits early access this week, and I’ll be first in line to take down the mushroom menace.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

Probably the most high profile of this week’s new games, the remake of the second two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games grinds onto every possible modern system this week, and should hit players of a certain age like an overpowering blast from the nostalgia firehouse. We played a bit of this during Summer Game Fest (that pinball level is a beaut), and it does justice to the originals while also living up to the excellent standards set by 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. Don’t expect an exact translation of these games, though; the fourth one, especially, sees a number of changes, due largely to how the original game’s structure and format differed from the first three. You can also expect three new courses for that fourth game, including that awesome pinball level. With a soundtrack full of classic punk, hip-hop, and metal, as well as newer songs that fit the THPS ethos, this one sounds as good as it plays.

Patapon 1+2 Replay

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Switch, PC

It’s a big week for remakes of ‘00s classics newly retitled with a plus sign in the name, for some weird reason. Patapon 1+2 Replay refreshes the first two games in the cult rhythm strategy series for the PSP, where you’re an all-powerful god who directs your adorable little followers into battle by playing the face buttons like they’re drums. The original games combined cool art with surprisingly tough rhythm action and an unflaggingly charming aesthetic, resulting in a game with immaculate vibes. Hopefully the remake doesn’t drop the beat.
