Two new Dave Chappelle stand-up specials are coming to Netflix next month
Netflix is trying to be a lot of things at the moment, but its most aggressive push is arguably in the stand-up comedy department. The streaming service has snatched up specials from a number of big-name comics that just a few years ago would have aired on premium cable—Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Tracy Morgan, Louis CK—but perhaps its most enviable score is Dave Chappelle’s highly anticipated return to the stand-up stage.
Last fall, Netflix announced that it would be airing three specials from Chappelle’s personal vaults, and today the streaming service announced the premiere date for two of them. The first, Dave Chappelle: The Age of Spin, was filmed in Los Angeles last March, and the second, Dave Chappelle: Deep in the Heart of Texas, was filmed at Austin City Limits Live in April 2015. Both specials have the same premiere date, though: March 21.
Chappelle’s last concert special, Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth, aired all the way back in 2004. He’s currently touring in preparation for his third Netflix special, whose date has yet to be announced.
