UCB comedy group brings back Seinfeld for a new episode
Although it’s been off the air for 17 years, Seinfeld remains a social institution and continues to pop up in various forms throughout popular culture. There’s the Modern Seinfeld Twitter account, that whole season of Curb Your Enthusiasm about a reunion, and even some of the stars reuniting for real on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. The entire series will soon be on Hulu (starting June 24), but for those hungry for new Seinfeld material, a comedy group from the Upright Citizens Brigade theater may have just what they need.
Bellevue, a sketch/improv comedy group, recently created an entirely new episode of Seinfeld titled “The Leaning Susan,” which features George’s ex-fiancee coming back from the dead, Kramer coming up with a new product, and Elaine desperately in need of a good haircut experience at a salon. The cast is comprised of Noah Forman as Jerry, Dru Johnston as George, Cathryn Mudon as Elaine, Michael Antonucci as Kramer, and Joanna Bradley as Susan. Each cast member does a fair job impersonating their counterpart, with special recognition going to Mudon for her impeccable impression of Julia-Louis Dreyfuss as Elaine. Really, it’s exactly spot on.
The Daily Dot interviewed the group about their process and how the improv atmosphere fed into the making of the episode. Bellevue put together an entire episode of the material, including intro and outro of Jerry’s stand-up bits, and some pretty hilarious and wonderfully ’90s commercial breaks. It’s pretty good filler for those needing another Seinfeld fix and really does seem like a slightly skewed version of something that would’ve aired in that last season in 1998.
