It looks like Jordan Peele is going to get a chance to make his series of horror movies about “social demons,” as Deadline is reporting that the Get Out director and his Monkeypaw Productions label have signed a first-look production deal with Universal Pictures. Basically, that means Universal is already on board for Peele’s next film, as well as “several micro-budgeted projects” that he’s producing alongside Jason Blum. We don’t know much about the film or the smaller projects, but Deadline says Peele’s goal in starting Monkeypaw was to “tell stories in all genres and to give platforms to untapped voices in those mediums,” so they won’t necessarily all be horror movies.
Back in March, Get Out became the fastest Blumhouse Productions movie to gross $100 million, and Peele himself became the first black writer-director to make $100 million with his debut film. Considering that the movie only had a $4 million budget, it makes sense that Universal would be happy to keep throwing money at anything Peele wants to make. Now he just has to worry about living up to the lofty expectations set by his debut.
