That Weapons prequel about Aunt Gladys finds its writers

We’ve gotten a few crumbs of information about that potential Weapons prequel over the past few months, but with a recent Oscar win for Aunt Gladys actor Amy Madigan, it seems like we can expect to start hearing more. Deadline confirms this afternoon that Zach Cregger will return to pen the script for the project tentatively titled Gladys, along with co-writer Zach Shields. Shields has previously co-written Krampus, wrote the screenplay for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, and earned a “story by” credit on Godzilla Vs. Kong

There’s not a ton else yet publicly known about the project, including whether or not Madigan might return for another round of possessing neighborhood children. (We suppose that depends on how far before Weapons Gladys is supposed to take place.) But Cregger did say back in September that he had the idea for the prequel before Weapons even came out. After she won her Oscar in March, Madigan also seemed to confirm her involvement with the project, though that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be putting the wig back on. “Zach Cregger… he kind of says, ‘Yes, this is going to happen,’ but we know how long stuff takes, we know what this business is like, and nothing’s real ’til it is, and timing, and all those things,” she said backstage. “But if it worked out, that would be great, because I trust Zach, and he’s got a lot of wack ideas in his head.”
