Weirdly aggressive celebrity genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? returning to NBC

Weirdly aggressive celebrity genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? returning to NBC

A few years ago, the hot trend in reality-based programming was to make the name of your show a combative question so that viewers would be intimidated into watching. So You Think You Can Dance?, What Would You Do?, and What Makes You Think You’re Good Enough For The Voice, You Dipshit? were all clear examples of this, but now one of the shows with the most combative title is heading back to its original home. According to The Hollywood Reporter, celebrity genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? is going back to NBC for the first time in seven years, where it initially aired three seasons before moving to TLC for a 51-episode run.

The series is executive produced by Lisa Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky, and—for reasons that we can’t possibly begin to imagine—genealogy company Ancestry, and it’s based around following celebrities around the world as they learn about their lineage and (hopefully!) have tearful revelations about who they are and where they come from. A premiere date and the names of the celebrities who will be involved have not been announced, but we do know that the new season will run for 13 episodes and will, again, air on NBC at some point in the future.

Also, for the record, this is not the same show as the one where Ben Affleck found out that his family owned slaves. That one is called Finding Your Roots, and it has continued to cautiously avoid revealing which famous families owned slaves ever since.
