Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, August 23 to Saturday, August 29. All times are Eastern.
Stamptown (Netflix, Tuesday, comedy special) Hosted by the self-proclaimed “bad boy of clown” Zach Zucker, this hourlong variety show brings together a mix of comedy, circus, magic, and more, along with notable guests Neil Patrick Harris, Viggo Venn, Jordan Gray, Natalie Palamides, and BriTANicK, among others. Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, the special was filmed over three shows at the Netflix Is A Joke Fest at Los Angeles’s Montalbán Theatre this past May.
The Simpsons: Yellow Mirror (Disney+, Wednesday, standalone special) The last of a trio of Simpsons-related specials to arrive on Disney+ this summer, Yellow Mirror will find Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie dip a toe into Black Mirror-esque worlds of sci-fi suspense and dystopian horror. The full-length standalone episode will follow two trippy storylines: One about a defective lamp that upends Homer’s reality and the other about an unsettling AI-powered tablet that befriends baby Maggie. Patti Harrison and Demi Moore guest star.
Adults (FX and Hulu, Thursday, 9 p.m., season two premiere) Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao), and Anton (Owen Thiele) are back for another installment of FX’s Friends-meets-Broad City comedy. While crashing together in Samir’s New York childhood home, the Gen Z gang navigates fake IDs, family dynamics, financial humiliations and more. Season two’s roster of guest stars is lengthy, with Gaten Matarazzo, Jake Shane, Zosia Mamet, Susie Essman, Raven-Symoné, and Saturday Night Live’s Ben Marshall joining the ensemble. Look out for The A.V. Club’s season review on Thursday.
