What's on TV this week—Youth and Taskmaster season finales

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, November 1 to Saturday, November 7. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Youth (HBO, Sunday, 10 p.m., season one finale) Star-creator Sharon Horgan’s HBO comedy wraps up its eight-episode first season Sunday night. Alex’s romantic relationship with Patrick (Rupert Friend) hangs in the balance after that awkward pros-and-cons list last episode, and the growing tension between the former and her boss-slash-BFF Sam (Sharlene Whyte) gets equally messy when the two are thrown together at the Women’s Literature Awards ceremony. Look out for The A.V. Club’s finale recap on Sunday night, as well as a follow-up interview with Horgan herself on Monday.

The Greatest (Prime Video, Wednesday, limited series premiere) The life and legacy of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali has been immortalized several times on the big screen, but the heavyweight icon is now getting his first authorized scripted series via this Prime Video bio-drama. Starring Jaalen Best as Ali, the eight-part limited series follows the young boxer as he pursues the heavyweight title following his 1960 Olympic gold win, navigating rising fame, personal conflicts, and social hurdles along the way. Don’t miss The A.V. Club’s review on Tuesday.

Taskmaster (YouTube, Thursday, season 22 finale) English stand-up Chloe Petts is solidly at the top of the leaderboard with 154 points going into the intriguingly titled “Big, Clumsy Emu Steps,”, which means fellow comedians-slash-competitors Nina Conti, Isy Suttie, Matt Lucas, and Richard Ayoade will have to really bring it if they want to impress Greg Davies with their performance, speed, and knowledge of ancient Greece. Find an extra special post-season interview on The A.V. Club Thursday evening.

North Of North (Netflix, Thursday, season two premiere) Winter is coming—okay, it’s the Arctic Circle, winter is pretty much always coming here—and so is life for Siaja (Anna Lambe). Seven months after her very public divorce, the young Inuk mother is making “bold decisions and even bolder mistakes” as she pushes Helen  (Mary Lynn Rajskub) to give her more responsibility at work, gets back on the northern dating scene, and raises her young daughter Bun (Keira Belle Cooper). The A.V. Club’s season review drops on Thursday.

It Gets Worse (Paramount+, Friday, series premiere) Adding to the recent influx of twentysomething streaming comedies (Adults, Overcompensating), this dark British comedy created by, written by, and starring Leo Reich centers on three deeply broke and directionless university besties (Reich, Emily Fairn, and Olive Gray) as they face eviction in London. Sent their separate ways across the city, they navigate dead-end jobs, chaotic love lives, and worsening mental health as they try to keep their friendship afloat. Andrew Scott and Lena Dunham guest-star. Watch out for The A.V. Club’s series review on Friday.
