What's on TV this week—Tell Me Lies, Industry, and Ponies

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, January 11 to Saturday, January 17. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Tell Me Lies (Hulu, Tuesday, 12 a.m., season three premiere)

Hulu’s drama is back for more carnal heat and romantic toxicity between on-again/off-again lovers Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White). Spring semester at Baird College finds the former embroiled in a campus-wide controversy while past indiscretions rise up to rattle the friend group. Check out The A.V. Club’s review

Ponies (Peacock, Thursday, 3 a.m., miniseries premiere)

In this Cold War spy thriller from David Iserson (Mr. Robot) and Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant), the titular “PONIES”—that is, “Persons Of No Interest”—are played by two people of some interest, Game Of ThronesEmilia Clarke and The White Lotus’ Haley Lu Richardson. Their Bea and Twila are secretaries at the American Embassy whose days of lowly desk life are traded for high-stakes CIA field work. Look for The A.V. Club’s review on Wednesday.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (Paramount+, Thursday, 3 a.m., series premiere)

The Star Trek Universe expands to a heretofore uncharted territory: school. Set in the 32nd century, Starfleet Academy follows a fresh-faced class of cadets aboard the USS Athena as they come of age and train to be Starfleet officers. The cast boasts Holly Hunter, Robert Picardo, Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, Paul Giamatti, and Stephen Colbert. Read The A.V. Club’s review

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials (Netflix, Thursday, 3 a.m., miniseries premiere)

The Queen Of Crime hits Netflix with this limited-series take on her 1929 detective novel. Adapted by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, the three-parter stars Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Freeman, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as a young sleuth investigating a case that blends country-house murder with international espionage. The A.V. Club’s review publishes Thursday.
