Will Arnett says new Arrested Development will be just like the old Arrested Development
Netflix only confirmed a fifth season of Arrested Development two weeks ago, but the wait between outings has already afforded fans and even cast members plenty of time to speculate on what the new episodes will offer. Season four mostly left the Bluths to their individual devices and disappointments, while also flashing back to George and Lucille: The Early Years. It was light on full family reunions overall, though the siloing of all the main characters was necessitated by the cast being so in demand these days.
Those scheduling conflicts are precisely what made the possibility of a partial prequel seem all the more likely. But Will Arnett’s spoken up to assure viewers that the new season will be more of a return to form. In an interview with Business Insider, Arnett says the new episodes will be “much like the original broadcast series,” which presumably means Mitch Hurwitz et. al. won’t have to worry about casting a young, well, everyone—after all, the whole cast, including Jason Bateman, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera, Portia De Rossi, Tony Hale, David Cross, and of course, Arnett have signed on.
And the once-and-future G.O.B. seems properly stoked about the reunion: “It’s an opportunity to see everyone else. It will be very rewarding.” If that response seems a little stilted, it might be because Arnett was speaking to Business Insider about his latest investment in Timyo, a “time-saving email app” with a name that sounds very much like the kind of venture the much-maligned Bluth son would back without asking for any details on how it works. There’s still no word on when exactly season five will be released.
