With “Prodigal,” Lifted Bells announces its lavish new EP
With only a pair of EPs to its name, Chicago’s Lifted Bells has adopted a “quality over quantity” approach to its releases. For its upcoming third EP, Overreactor, Lifted Bells has joined Run For Cover Records, which will release Overreactor in late spring or early summer and then follow it up with the band’s long-anticipated full-length. While fans will have to wait to hear the EP in full, The A.V. Club is premiering “Prodigal,” a knotty, poppy piece of math-rock that shows Lifted Bells at its very best, below. It’s a song that sees guitarists Matt Frank and Matt Jordan doing somersaults over one another, while vocalist Bob Nanna packs a hook into every open space. Of the song, and the band itself, Nanna says:
Being in Lifted Bells is wild exhilaration. I’m in awe of every single member of the band and I do my best to keep up. We’re psyched to be working with Run For Cover on this EP and the new album and we can’t wait for you to hear more. “Prodigal” is about some people’s need for constant validation. Some other stuff, too.
